Happy Birthday to US!

The boys are TWO today! I wanted to take some time to really remember what each of them is like at the moment. So, here it goes:

Ciaran Thomas exactly one year ago on his first birthday

Photobucket

Ciaran is a cuddler. He is the first to want to sit on your lap and snuggle. He is determined and head strong. He has a little bit of the devil in him. He may be small but he is mighty. He has something about his face that just makes me smile. When he smiles his eyes disappear. When he laughs it sounds nasally. He loves horses and books. He is smart as a whip but will not perform if asked. He likes to do things on his terms. He likes to be wrapped like a burrito when he goes to sleep at night. He loves the bath. He talks the clearest of the three at the moment and can say anything. He understands jokes and really "gets it". I believe he will be a real ball buster when he grows up. He is the quickest to get mad and also the quickest to just give you a hug for no reason at all.

Colin Francis at his first birthday
Photobucket
Colin: The best word to describe Colin is Jolly. His smile and his laugh are contagious. His laugh comes from so deep in his belly and he loves to laugh. His smile takes over his entire face. He is a joker. He is the biggest but the most sensitive. He loves to figure out "how things work". He can open any door, unlock any baby lock. He loves to do things for me. He is totally into trucks right now. He also loves his books. His favorite words at the moment are Yellow and Dirty. He loves to take a bath but doesn't really like the water over his face. I believe he just might be the class clown when he grows up. Colin is kind. Colin is so smart and will gladly share his smartness with anyone who asks.

Cormac one year ago
Photobucket
Cormac: I think the best word for Cormac is sweet. Everything about him is sweet. His smile, his laugh, his personality. He misses nothing. He only needs to be told something once and it is committed to memory for life. He is good for running across the room and hugging for no apparent reason. He loves airplanes and ducks. He also likes to read. Baby Signing Times is his obsession. He will watch any of the videos over and over and he can do EVERY stinkin sign in all the videos. He is like a sponge always soaking in his surrounding. He has a giant heart and you can tell already he loves deeply. He is kind and gentle. He LOVES babies. He wants to kiss and hug them. Oh, and I forgot Duke. Duke and Cormac have a special bond. None of us get it but the two of them understand each other. He is a performer and loves to peform for all. I think when Cormac is older he will be a natural leader.

None of them like when the other is upset. If one is crying the other two start saying "boo hoo" and acting upset. They love each other and it's apparent. They have different relationships with each other. It is fascinating to watch the dynamics of these relationships develop over time. Before Cormac could hear I think he was a little on the sidelines of this "triplet" dynamic. Sometimes I would get so upset because it would seem he was being left out but in actuality it was he just didn't realize Ciaran and Colin were doing something. Now they are a true threesome. A force to be reckoned with. I know they will fight and probably want to kill each other at times but I also know they will NEVER let someone else go near their brother without a fight. They are extremely loving towards each other and kiss and hug a lot. They also get mad at each other. Ciaran and Colin are the first to realize when Cormac's implant has fallen off and try their hardest to put it back on. They are and always will be his greatest teachers. He learns every day from them by having built in language models. They learn every day from him that their is nothing you can't accomplish. Some day they will understand Cormac is deaf and I know they will be his best support system. The three of them will always have each other's backs.

I marvel each day at how lucky I am in life. We may not be rich or have it all but we have a house FULL of love and laughter. I couldn't ask for more. These boys are the greatest gift I could have ever asked for and I never dreamed it could be so good. To know when I wake up each morning I go into a room of three beautiful smiling faces just waiting for their "Mama", well, that's enough to just bring me to tears. I try and not get caught up in our busy life and take time to enjoy the moments. They will not be small forever. They will not let me hug and kiss forever so I better do it while I can. But what I hope they do know is that no matter what, I will love them forever. Nothing could ever change the love I have for them.

I started this post on 3/17/08 since I knew it would take a while. In the past few weeks this boys have really started talking. They know every letter of the alphabet, numbers 1-10 and colors red, yellow, blue green and PURPLE. Purple has become a "tickle" word in our house. If you say it, you get tickled. They find this so amusing and will just run up to me and say "purple" to get it started. Cormac particularly loves this game. To our amazement he "gets it". He knows it's a joke to say the word. This is an accomplishment noticed by his teacher. Deaf children in general have a hard time learning when something is said one way and means another. They learn the words more literal meaning and it takes them sometime to pick up slang or jargon.

I think back to the day I found out about having triplets. Most people said "did you freak out?" But I really didn't. I was pretty calm and from the moment I was pregnant never had a negative thought. Not even when I went into labor more than once and they hooked me up to Magnesium causing me to feel worse than words could ever describe. I literally had no control over my eyeballs and wanted to vomit the enitre time. I just kept thinking I know these boys are going to be fine and WHATEVER is needed I will do. I also remember being about 31 weeks and going into labor again and thinking. "I don't know if I had handle Mag again for the 3rd time" But then in the next breath told the Dr. "ok, do whatever you need to" Luckily, I didn't need it because it was stopped on it's own. I never knew I could love Frank more than I already loved him. I have always known what a wonderful man he is and his love for me is unlimited. But for what he had to endure while I was pregnant and never complaining once, after watching him when each baby was delivered and him managing to not only videatape but also get a still photo! and never ever leaving my side once, my love and respect for him has only deepened. These last two years have been a lot of fun. Alot of marraiges are weakened by births of multilples. I have to say ours has only gotten stronger. He is an outstanding father. His sons love him. One of my greatest joys is to see his face and theirs each day when he comes home from work. They run and just attack him with hugs and kisses. It is a memory forever burned into my brain. Something I never want to forget.

I know this post is long and sappy but hey, I think I deserve a little sappiness once in a while!

What Didn't we do this weekend.

First, I'll start with an update on the car situation. The good news (well, I guess) is it is up and running. The bad news is it is up and running. I hate that damn mini van and thought this might be my chance to upgrade. But that clunker has decided to live on.... The gas guage is apparantly not working correctly.

Friday, Frank and I had plans to go to the Newark St Patrick's Day Parade (with no kids). My mom was supposed to watch the kids but came down with Strep Throat. Maggie was kind enough to skip the parade and watch Ciaran, Colin and Cormac. We were so happy to see so many family and friends. Not to mention consume some serious beer and not have to drive a car. (Strep throat and all my mom dropped us off and picked us up). Yep, at 36 years old my my dropped me off and picked me up from a bar. I didn't even make her drop me off around the corner. Frank and I were proud drinkers and didn't care!!!

Now, Frank and I like to think we can still party with the best of them. And, jeez, we sure can. BUT what I did notice is the recovery time is much longer than years ago. No hangovers but pure exhaustion. Took me to today to finally feel rested. But it was SOOO worth it.

Saturday morning we were up bright and early with the hooligans. We went to the zoo and joined for the year. It is somewhere we spend a lot of time. After the zoo in my exhausted state I drove to Staten Island to work on the new business. Frank stayed home with the boys.

Sunday we headed down to Maggie's because Aunt Juanita and Corinne are up from Texas. We can't miss an oppurtunity to see them. We had some dinner and Juanita's family was also there. Ciaran might have a new love named Jackie. She's an older women for him (I think she's 23?) but he has good taste! Jackie is Juanita's sister. But you know men, they can be fickle. Little Maggie showed up and he fell for her also. Now she is only 2 months younger than him. Cormac calls Juanita "nita" and they all call Corinne "In".

I love to see all the cousins together. Boy, have times changed in such a short time. Yesterday, there were six kids between 3 months and not even 2.

On a more serious note, please read the blog I copied below. It really hit home for me. This young baby has had such a rough start in life. He is currently in Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Please say some prayers for Jack tonight. He can really use all the prayers we have to offer.

Hello from CHOP. For the first time since we’ve starting posting updates, I’m kind of at a loss for words. Up until this point I’ve felt like I could handle anything that is thrown our way. But the past few days have been harder than ever. I miss holding Jack and hearing him babble. I miss changing his diapers and watching him grab for toys. If I can take one good thing away from Jack being on the respirator, it’s a promise to me never to take anything in life for granted. I told Chad tonight that Jack is going to have to follow one rule for the rest of his life no matter where he is. Whether on a business trip, studying for exams, drinking with his friends during spring break, or on his honeymoon he must call his mother everyday! Because after he comes off this ventilator, there will not be another day in my life where I will go without hearing his voice. So all of you reading this right now – CALL YOUR MOTHERS! They want to hear from you.

Nothing much changed this weekend. Jack is still stable. Tomorrow he’s having another bone marrow biopsy done. Hopefully there won’t be any over active histiocytes taking up space. From there we wait for his counts to fully recover so he can finish fighting off the infection. (We started to see an ANC and a slight white count this morning which is a good sign that they are beginning to recover.) And plans for a spleen embolization will probably be decided on this week sometime. We’ll keep you updated.

Thanks again for your support, love and prayers. Keep praying !

Love, Kristy, Chad, and Jack

Oh, today was BAD

It started out fine. Robin came over to watch Colin and Ciaran while I took Cormac to a special session at school. It was a great opportunity for him to be observed by The Moog School. They are leaders in the field of teaching deaf children to hear and speak. I was so excited. Cormac did wonderful as expected. Towards the end he had had enough. It was his nap time and he was exhausted. But all in all it was a success. I came home and Ciaran and Colin had a ton of fun with Aunt Robin and Cailan (she might be their favorite person on the planet besides me!!) Down for naps without a peep.

Frank calls and says he needs to work late. I decide I will take the boys to the mall and we will have dinner out. Great for me, no cooking and the boys will get out of the house for a while. Things did not go as planned. I pulled out of the driveway and the car seemed a little funny. By the time I got to the bottom of the hill it was no longer running. I got thru the stop sign and managed to park it with no steering or brakes. Just lovely. I decided I didn't need a jacket since I was just running into the mall. Now sitting in a dead car with no heat is a total different story. The boys were fine at first but were getting very restless from being strapped in their carsseats. By luck my good friend, Maritza happens to call and she comes to help. I thought maybe I ran out of gas because the gas light was on but I really didn't think that was possible. But hey, a girl can dream can't she? Maritza sits in my car while I drive her car to my house to get the gas can that already had gas in it. I come back and fill up the car. At this point the kids were upset because I left and wanted to get out of the car. No such luck. The car STILL will not start. Kids getting more upset. Now I have no choice but to put the boys in Maritza's car and drive up the hill to my house. Literally, it's less than a 10th of a mile. Colin FREAKS out beyond freaks out. I don't know if he was afraid or what but he melted down. Ciaran follows suit. And Cormac decides he LOVES this car sits down and smiles and claps. UNTIL he realizes he has to get out and he starts a major melt down. In their entire TWO years of life I have never seen te three of them this upset. It was very upsetting to see. Not to mention at this point my phone is ringing off the hook and I can't exactly talk with the three of them flipping out. He comes my brilliant plan. Mini Cadbury eggs... A moment of pure genius leads to a moment of SILENCE. At this point poor Maritza's ears were probably aching. She leaves and now they start to cry because she is leaving. At least they settled down quickly. Somehow in all this mess I managed to order a pizza (who says I am not a multitasker?) since it is now close to 6pm and my plan of eating out is out the window.

Oh, I forgot to mention when I got back to the house the lovely Duchess has busted out of the kitchen and tore open a plastic bag of dirty diapers. The mess was beyond description. Remember this... you will hear more in a while.

This pizza arrive and it is GOOD! Frank arrives home shortly after. The tow truck shortly after that Frank. Somewhere in this craziness we changed the boys diapers, put them in their PJ's, brushed their teeth and put them to bed.

I follow the tow truck to the mechanic and leave the car. And here comes the topper of the night.

Remember I told you what Duchess did??? Well she decided to PUKE up all the crappy diapers she ate. Can you think of anything worse than regurgitated crap? I was not home and Frank was left to deal with it. I probably would have killed her. Now I am home and trying to relax with the lovely scent of shit covered up by cleaning products.

Ciaran got hit in the head with a wood block and has a cut. Ciaran knocked a chair over and it hit Colin on the head and he has a giant bruise on is forehead.
I will end will this.... Tomorrow has GOT to be better. But then again they will probably call me and tell me our car is shot!

Just some random thoughts for today

I think I do more before 1pm (nap time) than the average person does in a day. I am really convinced. Let's take today for example, the boys were up by about 8. Change three diapers, go downstairs and make breakfast, clean up after breakfast, go back upstairs and dress all three (3 shirts, 3 pants, 6 socks, 6 sneakers, 3 coats and 3 hats) Carry them one at a time to the car because they can't yet be trusted not to run like maniacs into the street if I let them all out and walk. Strap 3 into their carseats. Drive to Target, get them all out and find the monster sized cart that holds three children. Strap them all into the cart. Get the few things I need and keep them entertained in the Target. Today, I bought them little light up easter eggs. It worked for a while. Leave target, get them all strapped into their seats and head to Costco. Unload them and restrap them into ANOTHER cart. Get what I need at Costco while trying to keep them happy. Normally, not a problem but Ciaran was in a grumpy mood and would not stop whining. Candy or as Cairan says "nandy" will quiet him down NO MATTER WHAT. Hmmm.... I wonder where he gets a sweet tooth from???? I am forced to buy a COSTCO size bag of candy just to give him a piece. It's probably about 4 pounds. Ok, we check out at Costco with of jumbo size diapers. Oh, I forgot to add that I have to answer at least 20 times "are they triplets?" and other questions by the inquiring public. This tends to slow us down in our travels. Now I leave Costco and strap them all back into their carseats, we drive home. Everyone walks into the house because I couldn't carry them. They run wild and play while I make lunch. They eat, upstairs to change three more diapers, everyone in cribs with the book they "HAVE" to have in thier crib. Blankets on and off to sleep.

CAN YOU GUESS WHAT TIME IT IS???? It is 1pm!

ANother little tidbit. Colin has mastered opening the baby gates. I swear most adults cannot open these gates. That little bugger can do it one handed. We have the same gates at the top of the stairs going into the basement and going from the upstairs to the main floor. I am not too worried about them falling down the stairs because they have been going up and down the stairs for over 6 months and at this point they walk down holding the banister BUT this is my only source of confinement. Now I can' keep them trapped in the family room or play room. You know, once one sees the gate open it is a mad scramble to see who can get down the stairs first.

Cormac is graduating to the big class at Summit Speech School. We will now be attending on Wednesdays. He is really progessing so quickly. He tries to say every word he hears and I swear he understands every word you say to him. I realize this will always be a learning process for Cormac and us. Each day is a new opportunity and presents its own challenges. So far, he has met each challenge head on and I know he will continue to do so. I know life will not be as easy for Cormac. He will always have to make adjustments in certain situations. He will always be deaf which is a hard thing to accept as a parent. Not because it makes him any less perfect but because no one wants their child's life to be any more difficult than it already can be. I wonder what the future holds for him. I know anything is possible for him. If he was born years ago i believe his future would be a different future. We as parents try and make the best choices for our children. I strongly believe we made the right choice to implant Cormac and give him the opportunity to live in the hearing world. I know so much controversy exists between the deaf community and parents choosing implants for their children. I think it is sad the two sides can't work together for the greater good of these children who are being born in a time where technology exists to help our children hear. These children and parents put in a lot of hard work. It is not easy for any of them. They need to work harder to "listen" and it get tiring for their little brains. I wish more people understood how a Cochlear Implant works and not just think he gets it and it's over. It is years of daily hard work by both parents and the children. The results speak for themselves (literally).

All this said, I wouldn't want my life to change one bit. I love what I do every day. Some days, yes, it is exhausting and I wonder why I left the house. But most days it is so rewarding. The smiles and hugs and kisses well they make up for all the work. Hearing "mama, wuv you". What more could you ask for???

A busy weekend

We started out Saturday morning with Breakfast with the Easter Bunny. We joined Robin, Mike, Cailan and Michael. Everyone enjoyed it. My kids love the Bunny. I thought they might be afraid but not these three. Ciaran literally jumped out of my arms onto his lap. He is usually the last to go to anyone and prefers to be held my me and only me but the Easter Bunny outranks Mommy. Colin and Cormac wanted to shake his hand (I guess paw?)since we have been working on shaking people's hands when we meet them and saying "nice to meet you".

I am lucky they are not afraid. Since they were born they were never afraid of Santa or the Easter Bunny.

Sunday was Michael's Christening and I was the lucky Godmother. He is so cute and couldn't have looked more adorable in his bowtie. I left the boys at home during the church because did we really need the three of them at church??? They joined us for the party after and had a BLAST. They love playing with all their cousins. It was probably one of the first times where we were able to just let all three down and not really watch them like hawks. I think since it was less people it was easier. They are so lucky to have such great cousins (Daniel, Christopher, Devon, Cailan and Michael) who entertained them the entire time. I think only once did I have to replace Cormac's magnets. And I knew it fell off because Cailan was such a smartie and came and told me. I realized Daniel and Christopher can do it for themselves and don't need to ask me. They are so big now.

The boys were so tired from our weekend they didn't wake up until 8:45am. I actually slept until 8:30. It's been a long time since I slept that late.

Let March Begin!

I started this post days ago and haven't had time to finish it. Nothing too earth shattering.

Anyone who knows our family knows that we start celebrating St Patrick's Day the first weekend of March. Nutley hosts its parade the first Saturday of March followed by Belmar the next day. Frank and I met for the first time at the Nutley Parade. I think it was about 10 years ago at this point. Lots of beer was involved but it all worked out for the best considering where we ended up!

Last year we took the boys to both parades and it was really the first time we had ever seen the parade even though we have been going for so many years. We would normally just go directly to the bar. It's always fun because we see lots of friends we only see at this time of year.

Maggie hosts a party for the Belmar parade and we went yesterday. We watched the parade for over an hour. Ciaran, Colin and Cormac had so much fun. They loved the bagpipers, the fire trucks and all the people. These babies are troopers. They were awake from 7am to 8pm with no nap. I am usually a stickler for their nap time but I let it go for the day. They were so happy and never complained.

Say it ain't so.

All of us are sick. It started yesterday with runny noses and now they have coughs and fevers. This is our second sickness of the winter. The last one lasted 2 weeks. I don't know if I can handle another two weeks. I feel so bad for them when they are sick. They are so miserable. Last winter we did not get sice ONCE! A lot to be said for staying in the house and not letting visitors over for 5 months. I swear I have thought about doing that again this year but it just doesn't seem feasible with toddlers. Not only would I lose my mind, but so would they. I think leaving the house every day is good for all of us. They really enjoy going out and socializing. I am hoping for a speedy recovery because we have some big plans for the weekend. You know us, once the month of March hits we are booked nearly every weekend for celebrating St Patrick's Day.

I saw this poem posted somewhere and thought today was a good day to share. With everyone sick it's one of those days where you just lay around and enjoy each other. Who cares if there is laundry to be done? Who cares if there are Cheerios smooshed into the rug in the family room (isn't that what the dogs are for?) This poem is a gentle reminder to not sweat the small stuff. Take time to enjoy TODAY. DOn't worry too much about tomorrow. And just be thankful you have today.

My Child

Just for this morning, I am going to smile when I see your face and laugh when I feel like crying.
Just for this morning, I will let you choose what you want to wear, and smile and say how perfect it is.
Just for this morning, I am going to step over the laundry, and pick you up and take you to the park to play.
Just for this morning, I will leave the dishes in the sink, and let you teach me how to put that puzzle of yours together.

Just for this afternoon, I will unplug the telephone and keep the computer off, and sit with you in the backyard and blow bubbles.
Just for this afternoon, I will not yell once, not even a tiny grumble when you scream and whine for the ice cream truck, and I will buy you one if he comes by.
Just for this afternoon, I won't worry about what you are going to be when you grow up, or second guess every decision I have made where you are concerned.
Just for this afternoon, I will let you help me bake cookies, and I won't stand over you trying to fix them.
Just for this afternoon, I will take us to McDonald's and buy us both a Happy Meal so you can have both toys.

Just for this evening, I will hold you in my arms and tell you a story about how you were born and how much I love you.
Just! for this evening, I will let you splash in the tub and not get angry.
Just for this evening, I will let you stay up late while we sit on the porch and count all the stars.
Just for this evening, I will snuggle beside you for hours, and miss my favorite TV shows.
Just for this evening when I run my finger through your hair as you pray, I will simply be grateful that God has given me the greatest gift ever given.

I will think about the mothers and fathers who are searching for their missing children, the mothers and fathers who are visiting their children's graves instead of their bedrooms, and mothers and fathers who are in hospital rooms watching their children suffer senselessly, and screaming inside that they can't handle it anymore.
And when I kiss you good night I will hold you a little tighter, a little longer. It is then, that I will thank God for you, and ask him for nothing, except one more day...............

Quick post today

Just want to make sure I keep a record of maybe one of the cutest moments I have yet to witness between the boys. We went to look for some Irish caps for the boys for all the St Patty's Day festivities. We stayed out later than I anticipated and it was time for naps. I loaded them all in the car. Ciaran was in the middle seat with Colin to his right and Cormac to his left. Cormac and Colin fell asleep almost immediately. I glanced in the rear view mirror and because I could hear Ciaran giggling. He was holding both of his brothers hands while they slept. He was grinning from ear to ear and saying "Shhhh, Shhhh". He held their hands until we got home. He is so sweet I can't take it.

A picture perfect moment but we were in the car so their is no proof!

Obice?????

Colin walked around for days repeating this word over and over again. Frank and I could not figure out what the heck he was talking about. Well, I was reading a book to him and it had a robot. He points to the robot and says "obice". So, obice = robot. I said to him that's a robot and he said robot as clear as day. But again today he is saying obice. At least I know what he means now. They all have their own little way of saying certain words. Ciaran puts B on the word up so it always Bup. Now of course, Colin and Cormac say Bup. I correct them but it is no use. They will eventually say it correctly. Ciaran also says some weird word for open. It is now closer to open but sound like Bopel. Again, putting a "B" in the beginning. I noticed today it sounded more like "opel" so we are getting closer.

It seems they can almost say anything now. Yellow is very popular at the moment. Colin likes to say Purple. Everything is either Hot or Cold.

Waffle seemed like the word of the day. The three of them never said that word until this morning and all three can say it perfectly. Yesterday it was Banana. I can't tell you how many bananas they ate in a day.

Cormac is graduating to the bigger class at Summit Speech School. They feel he is ready to be with the older kids. I am glad his three friends are all going with him and the teacher is the same. It won't be much of a transition.

Ciaran has a shiner. I wasn't here when it happened but apparently his face met with a Hess truck.(I believe Colin was in possession of the Hess truck at the time but I have no proof!) It's not Ciaran's first shiner and I am sure it wont be his last. He is quite the scrapper for a little guy so I am sure he retaliated in some way.

Let is Snow

So far today I think was have about 6 inches of snow. It has stopped snowing but is supposed to start up again soon. I took the boys out in the yard to play in the snow. This is really the first time they "played" in the snow. Since I bought them snowpants, jackets and boots it about time they got to use them. Cause, Lord knows they won't fit them next year. It's not for lack of trying but we really didn't have any snow this year.

They LOVED LOVED LOVED the snow. Mind you, they wouldn't wear their mittens and couldn't understand why their hands were freezing. But I tried to keep their mittens on them. At least they left their hats on for the entire time. (Cormac only wore a hood because he hat kept making his magnets fall off and I wanted him to be able to hear me.)

Of course Duke and Duchess had to get in on the act. They go crazy for the snow.

Here is some video

I gave Cormac a crew cut!

The hair pulling has progressed to a bald spot. Think male pattern baldness. For some reason he only plays with the hair in the center and never the front. He was starting to look like Ducky from that 80's movie with Molly Ringwald so I decided to buzz his head today. I think the buzz cut is better than a comb over. I plan to let his beautiful blonde curls grow back when he gets out of this phase. Until then, he will have to sport a buzz cut. He sat on my lap and let me buzz his head with no problems. The other two nuts who FREAK OUT at the barber starting crying because they wanted my to do it to their heads. So, I pretended to buzz their heads. Maybe this will get them used to hair cuts and it will cut down on the drama we usually have to endure.

With a face like Cormac's it really doesn't matter what his hair looks like. He'll always be beautiful.

I am think Ciaran and Colin might be having a meeting with the buzzer for the summer.

I'd Rather Have A Root Canal....

than have triplets. Someone ACTUALLY said this to me once. I wasn't really offended because people say stupid comments to me all the time. Well, I just had a root canal this evening. I am now officially OFFENDED. My triplets are BY FAR better than a root canal. Now, I thought I knew this already but as the numbness is starting to wear off I am POSITIVE my boys rank WAY WAY HIGHER than a root canal. I would trade a root canal for 3 or 4 months of bedrest and discomfort any day. Think about it at the end of a long time of bed rest and house confinement, multiple hospital stays, medicine that made you a little crazy and occasionally puke there was a HUGE reward: Ciaran, Colin and Cormac. At the end of this root canal?? After the numbness wears off what do I have to look forward to? Nothing but pain and a follow up visit to the dentist.

So, whoever you were who made that comment, I only have one thing to say:

I hope all your teeth fall out!

Ok, that's all for today.

Happy Birthday, Meema!

Today was my Mom's birthday so we headed up to Trisha's house for a little family get together.

Here's my Mom with all the grandkids. Not such an easy task any longer.

The boys just love going to Trisha's house especially with all their cousins. The noise volume, well lets just say it's not too easy to have a conversation with all the kids running wild. It's so nice to have everyone together. These are the days you want to remember forever.

The boys gave my Mom a book for her birthday. It's called a Grandparent's Legacy. Basically, it is a journal with questions she is supposed to answer. It will tell the story of her life. When the boys are older they will have this book to know anything they wanted to know about Meema. I think it is a book that will be cherised by family in years to come.

Before heading up to Trisha's we spent a relaxing morning at home. (Well, if you call making lasagna, meatballs and baking a cake relaxing) But it was a fun morning all in all. We did our usual bird and squirrel watching from my bedroom window. This is a typical Saturday and Sunday morning event. Today we let the dogs in with us too. All I can say is I think we need to upgrade to a King size bed. With all of us and the dogs it sure is crowded.

This sure was a wonderful day.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!! (A day late)

This is the best I could get of the three together!

I couldn't have four sweeter Valentines(Yep, Frank included!. Who needs candy when you have the three most beautiful boys and the best husband a girl could ask for???

We made Frank some special Valentines as an art project yesterday. We painted hearts using Q-Tips as paint brushes. Keeps the mess to a minimum. Then we (I) cut out the hearts and I let them glue them to paper. Frank adored them.

We went out to lunch with my mom for Valentine's Day. The boys enjoyed yummy pancakes with strawberries. Boy, did they eat a lot. They are such good little boys when they are out to eat. No fussing or crying not food throwing. It was a nice little treat in the middle of the day to go out to lunch. (except for the bitchy woman when we first walked in) If you have nothing nice to say than don't bother talking to me.

I think some of my favorite pictures of the boys are from last Valentine's Day. They still weren't walking so they were much more cooperative. In case you forgot, here they are:

I am feeling really bad photos I have been getting lately. I haven't been very creative. I will have to think of something really good for Easter. (I am thinking bunny ears and tails) It's all about cooperation and almost two year olds are just not very cooperative!

MESSY MESSY MESSY!

Why is it the favorite things to eat are always the messiest? I mean these three can't get enough pasta and meatballs BUT what a disaster. This is after last night's dinner. What a mess! This meal ended and they went directly to the bathtub. As you can see they are happy as they could be. They ate like little pigs. I could not believe the amount of pasta they consumed. I am guessing they take after Frank. I cannot imagine what it is going to feed them (and I am including Frank) in a few years. Our food bill is astronomical and they are not even two. Ciaran was in a wacky mood last night. Once I took the camera out. He was making his "smile" face. Not sure where he got it but it cracks me up. I am trying to upload the video but am having problems. Hope this works:

Colin finally has another tooth. He has one eye tooth peeking thru his gum. I was starting to think he was missing them. Cormac and Ciaran each have 16 teeth and have had them forever. Colin only has 12 (well, I guess 13 since this new tooth is coming in). He has been a drooling machine for the past couple of weeks so I guess he was teething. Luckily, none of the boys get upset when they get new teeth. I have never had to give them anything. They just would one day have another tooth.

We have three chatterbugs lately. I swear they can say anything (Cormac included)but they really talk the most when they are home with me and Frank. Meatball is my new favorite word. That is a new word and they sound funny when they say it. Ciaran likes to add a "B" to words that don't start with "B". Bup means up, Bopen for open and Bapple for apple. Of course, the other two follow his lead so I must say a million times a day "There is no B in UP!" I am sure they will grow out of it.

The last week

It's been over a week since I updated the blog. Where do I start? We went to a Superbowl party and it was a blast. The boys had such a great time. We got them home early enough so Frank and I could watch the second half while they were asleep. What an amazing football game. Probably one of the best games I have ever seen to date. We aren't even Giant fans but we were so happy they won. Because, no one likes the Patriots!

Tommy and Juanita surprised us and brought Corinne to visit from Texas. We were finally able to meet her. She is such a cutie. I am so sad they went back to Texas. They have only been in Texas a short time but Corinne already has cowboy boots!
Here she is:

Photobucket

The boys were starting to look like girls so we went for some hair cuts. I think this is Ciaran and Colin's 3rd or 4th haircut. This is pure torture for these children. You would think we were cutting off a limb. Ciaran was much better and stopped crying midway through. Colin, on the other hand, freaked during the entire haircut. It takes two people to keep him still. This is not an enjoyable experience. As soon as they are done they are fine and smiling and laughing.

Cormac has never had a haircut. How could I cut those blonde curls?? Well, he has a new habit of playing with his hair and started looking kind of crazy so I cut his hair. I felt so bad but it had to be done. When Ciaran and Colin got their first haircut we took a video and pictures. It was a big deal. I decided at the last minute to cut Cormac's hair so all I have is a picture from my mom's cell phone. Cormac never cried. Sat their in the little car and smiled and played. He is so different than Ciaran and Colin. Here is the picture of him after his haircut. It's a little blurry since it was taken with a phone. He looks like a big boy now.

Just to show you the difference. Here are Ciaran and Colin at their last haircut.

The boys got these really cute track suits from Nadine for Christmas. I think they are the most adorable things ever! I think they look like little mini mobsters but you all know I grew up in Belleville.

The whole gang

These three are a little crazy

A friend of the family, Kiki, stopped by on Friday night to visit. Not only was she kind enough to bring dinner for me and Frank but she came bearing gifts for the boys: Monster Hess trucks with two motorcycles on the back of each truck. These trucks do it all. They have lights, sound effects. I think this might be their favorite gift ever. Now, going to bed last night was a little tought. Prying three monster trucks out of six little but mighty strong hands is not the simplist of tasks. Colin nearly lost his mind. I finally gave in and let them each sleep with a motorcycle. I would have let them sleep with the trucks but the lights and the noise would have had them up playing all night! Here is what all the Hoopla was about:

Kiki also gave them Giants shirts to celebrate the Giants making it to the Super Bowl. Back to why I say they are crazy little boys. Once we put them in the shirts they thought it was hilarious. The shirts are huge so they look like they are wearing dresses. I really can't describe it so here is the video:

And another video:

You just never know how these three will react. I get the biggest kick out of them. Big thanks to Kiki for all the gifts. When Kiki left all three of them cried at the window saying "Kiki, Kiki". I had to promise them she would come back and visit soon. So, Kiki, if you are reading this I hope you come back soon!

Bath time

One way to make the boys happy is to give them a bath. They all enjoy it. No matter how grumpy one of them might be just add water and it cures all! Bathing them is never easy and I prefer to do it with Frank. I can hand one off and he can dry and diaper.

Cochlear Implants are Barbaric?????

Someone sent me a link to an editorial in a newspaper in Michigan. Basically, the author states "I believe cochlear implants are barbaric, and should never be performed in any child, regardless of their age". This person is deaf and feels parents of deaf children should not make this decision for their child. Well, that is what a parent does for their children. I am so irritated by the idea I have done something wrong to my child because I chose to give him every opportunity to live a happy, healthy and HEARING life. Why should I not give my son an opportunity to hear my voice and all the voices of people who love him? Why should I limit who can talk to my child by those who choose to learn sign language? I am not deaf, I do not know another deaf person. I don't even know where I would find a "deaf community" for Cormac to be part of at this time. I know other deaf children but they also have Cochlear Implants. I don't think I had to "fix" Cormac. I think as a responsible parent I am giving him a chance at a life he would not have had if he didn't receive an implant. These are the times we live in. If your child needed glasses would you tell them "you were born this way and you should live your life not being able to see clearly?

I have no doubt Cormac would be successful in life, implant or not. If he chooses to become part of the deaf community. I will support him. Somehow, I don't see him turning 18 and ripping off his implant and telling me I ruined his life. If we waited for him to make the choice he would be past the point of learning to speak. If we waited and he said to me years later "why didn't you do this?" I would not be able to live with myself. He can always take his implant off but we could never go back and teach him what he is learning now as an adult.

I feel no need to reach out to the Deaf Community. I get the impression they are not seeking us out either. Yes, my son is Deaf and he always will be. That said, he hears and he speaks. He also knows sign language. So, I think he is one well rounded not even two year old.

To the writer of the editorial: Until you walk in my shoes and until you meet my son, don't tell me I am a Barbarian. You must face the facts the Deaf community is changing. You can either bash your new members or embrace them. If you choose to bash them, well you will see your community diminish further.

Ok, I am done. But this really pissed me off.

Another cold weekend

I can't take the cold weather any longer. We are trapped in the house. I just want to be able to go to the park or for a walk. It seems like the winter will never end. Frank and I took the boys to Petsmart today. Not sure why I never thought of this before this morning. We at least got out of the house. They loved seeing all the birds and fish. There were even a few cats. I am thinking this will be our new hangout. We can just walk around and kill time. I never thought I would be so excited over the Petsmart!

I want to get the boys a fish tank but I can't figure out where to put it so they wouldn't have access to it unless I allowed them. I think I need to talk to my Dad about this decision. He is the fisherman of the family and loves to keep an aquarium.

I went out in NYC last night to celebrate a friend's birthday. I didn't get home until after 2am. Frank says I was drunk when I got home. I think I might have to agree with him! Luckily, I had a ride home so I didn't have to drive. I can't tell you the last time I actually had too many beers! Of course, Ciaran, Colin and Cormac don't know I stayed out late and drank too much so they were up as usual. For some reason that thought escaped me last night as I ordered another Corona!

Let's see??? Anything exciting with the boys... All three have decided head butting is the fastest resolution to getting what they want from each other. I think Colin started this trend but now they all do it. Cormac head butted Colin so hard today over a Matchbox car I thought they both would pass out. That resulted in some quiet time in the crib for Cormac. Ciaran still enjoys the occasional plate toss while it is filled with food. That also gets a trip to the crib for some down time. (OK, I only put them in for 2 minutes but it seems like an eternity when they are screaming to come out).

Colin is not feeling to well again. I think he is cutting a tooth. He still doesn't have many teeth. None of the boys ever fussed when they were teething but they always seemed to get a runny nose and slight fever. I am hoping it is a tooth and not him getting sick again.

Cormac's 6 Month Evaluation at NYU

We went to the city today for Cormac's 6 month evaluation with the Speech Therapist, Beth. He is doing UNBELIEVABLE! In the six months he has been hearing he has caught up and is now age appropriate for his receptive language. (NOT BEHIND ONE BIT!!!) His expressive language is not caught up yet but he is only about 2 months behind! This is way better than I ever expected. I knew he was doing amazing. I know he understands EVERYTHING! I hear him talk all day long. But when he had the surgery I didn't want to get my hopes up because you just never know. I knew he would do great but I didn't think it would be this quick. I sincerely believe he is doing so well because he was implanted bilaterally at the same time. We have advancedbionics to thank for this miracle. We were so fortunate to be enrolled in the study at NYU and have the opportunity to have the second ear done at the same time as the first. I wish every child had this opportunity. The times are changing and more insurance companies are starting to cover the second ear. Most times it requires months of fighting with your insurance carrier.

We also were able to meet with Kris, a representative from Advanced Bionics. She got to see The Big Mac in action. I was so happy to meet someone from the company. She was great and gave us lots of goodies. They are also starting a new awareness campaign and I was asked to help. I am so excited. I would love to be able to give back and help just one other Mom or Dad who is facing the same future as us.

Of course, Cormac got to see his girlfriend, Valerie, who is also his audiologist. He got a new map today and was up to his usual cuteness.

Rosemarie, the AV therapist, who is usually at all our visits, was kind enough to ask me to be part of the Parent Panel at NYU Cochlear Implant Center. I think this is a wonderful opportunity. I know when I was first faced with the decision to implant Cormac I was lucky enough to speak with a few parents and it was very helpful.

All in all we had a great day. I am so proud of Cormac. It is not easy for him to learn to listen. He works hard at it. He is such a cooperative child. He is patient and loves to learn from all of his teachers. My heart is so full of love for him and his accomplishments. He is going to conquer the world one day.

I know, I know, this is all about Cormac. I didn't forget about Ciaran and Colin but I didn't see them most of the day because we were out. This was just a special day for Cormac so I am beaming with pride!

I'll post tomorrow about the other two mad kissers! (They are currently obsessed with kissing. They kiss everything and everyone all day long!!)

Here are the boys

Frank taught the boys to shake their hands over their heads and yell "DADA". He can get them to do it all together. I was trying to video them today but they were all on the move. Here is the best I could get!

We had quite the weekend...

Let's start on Friday night. Frank and I put the boys down as usual. By 7:30 or so they are in their cribs and we don't hear from them again for about 12 hours. (It's been this way forever) At about 10:30pm I heard Cormac cry. By the time I came up from the family room he had stopped. I listened outside the nursery door and all I heard was Colin snoring. I went back down stairs. ABout 10 minutes later, Cormac cries again. Once again, I go up the stairs. He cried for maybe 2 seconds. I stood outside the door for about 5 minutes listening to Colin snoring. I didn't want to go in and wake anyone. Well, after I went down stairs again I heard Cormac SCREAMING like I have never heard. I run upstairs and go into the room. It was pitch black so it took a moment for my eyes to adjust. I reached in his crib and realized his legs were caught in the crib rails. I tried to pull them out but they WOULD NOT BUDGE. I call or Frank and he comes in and we had to turn on the light. At this point Ciaran wakes up and starts crying. Cormac is crying and I am crying because we can't get his legs out. Frank was just about to go get a saw when I said just pull the slats are hard as you can. Who cares if the crib breaks. His legs finally came out. Colin, God bless his tired soul, slept thru all of it and never woke up. We took Ciaran and COrmac into our room. They stayed up for about 1/2 hour and it was back to the cribs for the rest of the night. We bought a crib tent so it can never happen again. All three boys are tented. They look like little prisoners. But I would rather that then have another injury. Cormac is fine, just some bruises on his thighs.

Frank and I went out on Saturday night. A friend of ours hosts an annual party, Shepfest. It is held in January and is outdoors. Sounds crazy but it is so much fun. He has a huge bonfire to keep you warm. Heat lamps are set up. We had a blast and probably had too much to drink but who cares???

Well, it matters when your children who NEVER wake up at night suddenly decide to get up at 5 AM for the day when you only went to sleep at 2AM. Our little firecracker, Ciaran, decided to get up and just wanted to wander around the house. Countless attempts were made to wake his brothers but I wouldn't let him.

Here are some pics from Shepfest

All this comes when we finally decided we were going to bring the boys to church for the first time since their christening. Off we went, on our 3 hours sleep to mass. Believe it or not the boys were so well behaves. They were fascintated by the music and all the people. Cormac and COlin danced in my arms each time a song was sang. It was hilarious. I am so glad we took them and plan to take them each week.

Sunday afternoon Grandma and Uncle Cormac along with my Dad came over to watch some football and to eat dinner. It was a good time.

I am so tired today and the boys are exhausted. I put them down for a nap and am hoping it lasts about 3 hours. I might lay down myself.

POP POP

So, the run down goes like this. My mom is called meema and my Dad is called Pop Pop. My step father is also called Pop Pop. Frank's Dad is called Grandpa and Frank's Mom is called Grandma.

For the last month or so if I say to the kids "Do you want to me Meema, Grandma or Grandpa they immediately say no and start shaking their heads no. I think they associate seeing them with me leaving the house since these are our babysitters! It is actually kind of funny. Ciaran is the most adament about it. Of course, when they see any of them and realize I am not leaving they are so happy.

Well, today I told them Pop Pop was coming. He usually comes over once a week or more to visit. They just kept saying Pop Pop, over and over again. I said "do you want to see Pop Pop?" They were all jumping up and down with excitement. My Dad has babysat the boys before but usually while they are asleep so I guess they think he just comes to play! He stayed while Cormac got his therapy and played with Ciaran and Colin in the family room while I was with Cormac and Joan. Usually, Ciaran screams bloody murder for about 1 minute after I leave. NOt a word, not a peep, not a cry. All I heard was laughter fromt he family room. (with the occaisional "Don't do that" from my Dad)

Needless to say, my Dad was thrilled to hear all three of them saying Pop Pop. He likes to rough house with them and the LOVE it. When he left they were all saying "Bye Bye, Pop."

I had one of those moments yesterday where I still can't believe I am the mom to three boys. I looked out the bathroom window and saw their three little bikes in the yard. It actaully still takes me am few seconds to realize they belong to my three children. It's almost like "Whose yard is this?" I feel so truly blessed to have such a happy and healthy family. Right now they are all napping so it is really quiet. I am so not used to all the silence.

Finally better

I think today is the first day without boogers. The boys are all much happier. I am so happy they are feeling better. It was a rough 2 weeks with them sick. Their appetites are back. Last night they each ate two giant meatballs and a bunch of cavatelli! They are obsessed with grated cheese and I have to add it about a million times during dinner. I gave them ricotta cheese for the first time. Ciaran was just eating it by the spoonful. (He is so my child!) Cormac enjoyed it as well. Colin could care less. He did some nice artwork on his plate.

I took Cormac to NYU yesterday for follow up booth testing. He was very distracted but still did great. He didn't really get a nap and was really tired. He is testing at wonderful levels. They also tried some discrimination tests with him. The audiologist thought he might be too young, but come on, we are talking about Cormac, the boy who knows EVERYTHING! He was able to do the test and of course, he got all of them correct!

We go next week for his big 6 month evaluation. Frank will be joining us for the day. He is just as anxious as me to hear the "professionals" tell us he is doing fine. (Even though we KNOW he is doing awesome.)

I did get some great news. I spoke with the Board of Education in town and was told the decision to keep the boys together when they start school is up to the parent. That is one less battle for me to fight. I feel strongly they should stay together. If they want to be seperated at some point I will listen to them but I think they were born together for a reason. I think Cormac will need them and want them with him when he starts school. They will be his greatest resource for anything he thinks he might miss. I cannot even imagine the day the three of them head off to school together. I know I will cry my eyes out!

PIMP DADDY

I went to the mall with the boys because we have not been out of the house in so long because of sickies. It is raining so I thought we would have some lunch. I was getting ready to leave and putting the boys coats on and a bunch of Macy's emplyees were standing together. They happened to be all men because I was in the men's department. Well, you know we get sooooo many comments good and bad about the triplets but the one guy says "well by lookin at them I have to say, "that one looks like a quarterback (Ciaran), that one looks like the joker of the three (Colin), and this is where I almost peed my pants lauging he says "that one with the blonde hair and blue eyes, well you know he will be the PIMP DADDY!!! It was frigin' hilarious! They were all really nice and actually helped me with the door and with my bags!

I get so many comments regarding the boys but this might have been the funniest. I guess we will know in few years if his predictions are true!

A momma knows..

I just knew it wasn't just a cold. The boys were still sick today so I took them back to the doctor. Cormac has a double ear infection. I am so glad I went with my gut and brought them back. Ciaran and Colin still don't require anything since it's viral but I am supposed to keep an eye on them. If they continue with a fever I need to bring them back also.

So while we were waiting in the pediatrician's office there was a girl who was about 8 or 9 and it was obvious she had something wrong with her. Maybe severely autistic, but I have no idea. Anyway, her mom tells her to sit and wait while she talked to one of the nurses at the counter. The boys were all playing. Cormac goes running and was trying to get to Frank. Before he could make it this girl jumps up and grabs him by the arm and SLAMS him to the ground. I mean HARD. He hit his left side of his face. Frank jumps up and say "whoa, whoa, whoa and grabs Cormac. The mom says "she has a disability". Then proceeds to say "don't be upset he's just too little to play with you". Play with her??? This child was IN NO WAY trying to play with Cormac. It all happened so fast I didn't even get a chance to say anything because it was our turn. I took Cormac in first and he was hysterical and crying. I am assuming she scared the crap out of him. He had rug burns on his face from how hard she slammed him. He is totally fine (except for the ear infection). I know the mom was embarassed but she never apologized. And if you know your child has VIOLENT outbursts maybe you shouldn't leave her to sit alone in a chair. Keep her with you. Ok, I am over it now.

Now, you may wonder if the kids like going to the doctor. The answer to that is a big fat NOOOOOOO! Ciaran started crying when he saw the building. I took in Cormac he did ok. Next was Colin's turn. THAT BOY HAS SUPER HUMAN STRENGTH. I had to use all of my strength and energy to hold him against me so the doctor could look in his ears. You would have thought they were sticking KNIVES in the kids ears. I didn't have to go the gym after Colin. Ciaran was up next. I sent Frank in because Colin had worn me out. I knew Ciaran was going to flip when he went in. He likes to leave his coat on. They can't examine him in a winter coat. I figure Frank should get the full experience! As predicted Ciaran started screaming. He couldn' even be bribed with candy. Now you know he is relly upset.

Well, they are all sleeping peacefully after their motrin. I have twelve hours until Snotfest continues tomorrow. Oh, my muffins are burning in the oven. Gotta go.

OPERATION DISINFECTION

We are having a freakishly warm day here in NJ. I am taking this opportunity to air out the germs from our house. The boys are still sick. Fresh sheets, open the windows, lysol. The whole nine yards. These germs have got to go. After nap we are going for a walk outside. They haven't been out in almost a week. (except for a trip to the Dr) We all have cabin fever.

By 9am this morning Colin had puked all over himself. Not sure how he managed but somehow it went in his eyes and hair. Off to the tub for a quick dip. Next it was Ciaran's turn. They have nothing wrong with the stomachs. They are throwing up from coughing so much. I am hoping they get better by tomorrow. It has been almost a week since the first one got sick. The Dr says it is just a terrible cold. Seems like more to me but I guess I will wait it out another day or so.

Frank is also sick. I know I will get it next. Just waiting for it.

I had to keep Cormac home from school today. I don't want to spread the germs. I am hoping he is better for his therapy tomorrow. With the holidays it seems he hasn't had any scheduled therapy in so long. Not like he seems to be suffering. He continues to add new words to his vocabulary. Yesterday, I was trying to watch something for 2 seconds and I actually has to say "Shh" to him???? When I realized I said it to Cormac I just laughed.

Role Models

I saw this today on another mom's blog. So inspirational I had to steal the clip and post it here. This is a truly amazing man who is such a role model to all children, including deaf and hard of hearing children. I love it when I find such amazing people who I can show the boys.

Disable the music in the upper right hand corner before playing.

What does a sheep say?

Ciaran and Colin have been saying Bah Bah for so long I can't even remember when they started. Cormac says "ahh" because he can't say a "B" yet. Well, NO LONGER. He said BAH BAH today about a million times. He has mastered another letter! B's are a difficult letter for a deaf child to learn. Way to go, Cormac! Now, you would think they would all say "woof woof" for dog living in this house. But Ciaran and Colin still don't say it. Cormac started saying "woof" this week. And he also said grandma for the first time yesterday while Grandma was here! What a great moment. He says "andma" but you know exactly what it means. So, now he says "Mom or Mama for me, mmm ma for Meema and andma for grandma.

Here are some random videos and pictures from the holidays. Some of them you will hear Cormac using his new words

Cochlear Implant Awareness

When we found out Cormac was deaf it was certainly a shock. We were not expecting it at all. Everyone kept telling us he would probably get better. He was born early and was still developing. That was not the case and we had to make some big decisions quickly. Frank and I felt lost and not sure about anything. I was referred to a Yahoo forum called The Pediatric Cochlear Implant Circle. It is a wonderful place to ask questions and learn from experienced parents about real children who have implants. It has been an invaluable tool for me. I find it comforting knowing other parents understand exactly what our family is experiencing.

When you go to a doctor they give you all the clinical information but not the "real deal". I needed to know Cormac would be OK. He would live a life like any other child. The parents I have met have made me realize Cormac can achieve ANYTHING he wants. We treat him no differently because of his implants. He is just another one of the boys. These children are all inspirational. If not for some of these parents who fought for their children Cormac would not have been able to benefit by being implanted so young.

Working together The Pediatric Cochlear Implant Circle has created a brochure for parents. I can tell you I wish I had this when Cormac was first diagnosed. The goal of the brochure is to help parents through this difficult time. The hope is the brochure will be available at audiologists offices, ENT't, Implant Center, Early Intervention progams. Basically, it should be available anywhere a parent of a deaf child would visit. The Gift of Hearing Foundation generously printed the brochures. The brochure is also available online.

Check out the brochure. You might notice a familiar face in the brochure. Cormac is featured in it! He's such a mini celebrity.

I am hoping this brochure makes the process a little easier for other parents. We were so afraid and really felt we had no information and no one to help us. We were also taking care of three infants while learning of Cormac's hearing loss.

There were plenty of nights spent crying. Many days just holding him and crying trying to understand why this happened. Those days are gone. Every once in a while I will still get upset. But just looking at him and seeing how he truly is "just one of the boys" I sometimes forget he is deaf. That is until the stupid magnet falls off his head and starts beeping!!!

These boys are just too sad today...

I have never quite seen Ciaran or Cormac in such a bad state. Colin is sick but not quite as bad. I swear their brains are running out their noses. I don't even know what to do for them. Here is Ciaran today. How sad does he look? All that mess on his face? No, it's not food, it's boogers!

Photobucket

And for some reason Ciaran does not want his clothes on. But those who know him well know he will not take his shoes and socks off. So, this is the look for today. At least I had something to chuckle about.

Photobucket

Photobucket
Doesn't he look like a future supermodel???

Cormac on the other hand is starting to resemble Art Garfunkel!! Art Garfunkel is great and all but no one wants his hair! I LOVE his blonde curls but when left on it's own. Well, a picture says a thousand words...

Can you say BOOGERS????

I am drowning in boogers. Cormac and Colin faces are just about running off of them. They both have pretty bad coughs as well. Cormac was up in the night becuase he was coughing so much it makes him puke. (just lovely) I am not one to go in as soon as they cry in their cribs at night. But with Cormac I tend to go in faster because he doesn't wear his implants at night and I think he must get scared being in the dark and not being able to hear. He was SO upset last night. Of course, we woke Ciaran and he was crying too. Colin slept thru everything. Poor Ciaran hasn't had a good nights sleep in two nights. He looks so tired it is pathetic. I took the two sickies to the doctor today. Just really bad colds. But since I had Pneumonia recently I really was concerned for them. I am praying for a speedy recovery because they are just plain miserable. Now, Colin is still just a little sick but by tomorrow I am sure it will be just like the others! Oh, the joys of three babies! I can't ever keep their sippie cups straight. Not to mention they are totally into kissing each other right now so it is pointless. What one has the other two will follow. This is actaully Ciaran's first time to the doctor for a sick visit. I am hoping this is the last for the winter.

At this moment they are all napping. I plan on letting them sleep all day if they want.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

2008 arrived with no big excitement. Frank and I were both asleep! But that's ok.

2007 was a huge year for our family. Cormac had his surgery and it transformed his life. The miracle of the Cochlear Implant cannot be fully explained unless you experience it first hand. It is not a "quick" cure that most assume it is. Yes, he can hear but it takes a lot of time, energy and work for him to become a good listener. Most people do not understand how much has to be done in a day for Cormac to reach his full potential. It is SOOOOOO worth the work. He is doing better than I ever expected. His expressive language is starting to take off. He has added a few words (banana, meemaa, bubble, baby) to his vocabulary. I honestly believe Colin and Ciaran benefit from all the "therapy" I do all day long. It's not like I can single Cormac out and have alone time with him. There is only ONE of me (although it might be nice to have a clone). All the boys know their entire alphabet, they know their numbers 1-10, they know the differene between a square, a cirle and a triangle. Not too shabby for not even 21 months!

What do I look forward to in 2008? That is a hard question to answer. I hope for continued health for family and friends. I hope for Cormac to continue his success as a "hearing" child. I look forward to just spending time with Ciaran, Colin and Cormac while they still want to spend time with me. I look forward to lots of hugs and kisses (now that they know how to make the "kiss" noise). I want 2008 to go slower than 2007. This past year went so fast and I want to make sure I remember every moment of these years. I plan to try and slow things down and not worry as much. More days of just laying on the floor and playing and less time worrying about the mess and the laundry.

Being a mom of triplets is hard work. Some say I make it look easy. I take that as a huge compliment. I wonder now, when I look back, how I did it when they were infants. No sleep, they are every 2 1/2 hours and I was breast feeding. I really don't remember much of the first few months. Frank and I did everything around the clock. We never had anyone stay over even for one night to give us a break. Pretty unbelievable when I think of it now.

Ok, i am getting off topic.

I wish everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year.

My mom made this cute video from Christmas day. She's great with the pics and videos. Thought I would share it.

It's all over....

There are a lot of pictures so just be patient while it turns the pages!

Well, the holidays have come and gone. I haven't updated in a while because we have been running around like nuts for the past week or more. Christmas was just wonderful this year. The boys don't really "get it" yet but they sure understood all the toys under the tree. They were very excited. So far, the Little People Doodle Pros are the favorite. Luckily, I bought three of this toy. Robin bought them a train they can ride on that is motorized. The track is set up going around my coffee table in the living room. Colin thinks it is his and wants no part of sharing it. He is totally serious when he rides it and won't smile. I think it takes all his concentration to remember to hold the pedal down so it goes. Ciaran really likes it too. Cormac goes on for about a minute and then changes his mind and wants to do something else.

We are all exhausted from the last week or so. All three of them are now sick with coughs and runny noses. It's really gross. Gotta love three sick, not so happy boys in the house.

I really love Christmas and this year it was just so much more than I could have imagined. To see Christmas thru the boys eyes is like being a child again.
